Soproni Egyetem Lewinszky Anna Gyakorló Óvoda (HU)

Kindergarden (Óvoda) is named after influental hungarian pedagogue ANNA LEWINSZKY (1866-1938). Born in Sopron on May 4, 1866, Anna Lewinszky’s career as an educator began in her hometown before she relocated to Vienna between 1890 and 1895. In 1892, she played a pivotal role in establishing and managing the nursery and kindergarten at Képezde utca 12, demonstrating exceptional dedication to fostering a nurturing environment. Renowned for her warmth and commitment, Lewinszky cultivated a family-like atmosphere, emphasizing both personal care and patriotic values. Despite facing challenges such as securing resources for essentials like food and heating, she tirelessly fundraised and advocated for her charges. Her compassionate leadership endeared her to parents and children alike, ensuring the institution’s growth and success. Even after her retirement in 1929 due to health issues, Lewinszky remained active in supporting her successors and contributing to the ongoing operations of the First Sopron Kisdedóvó and Bölcsőde Association until her passing on February 19, 1938. She rests in Michael’s cemetery, leaving behind a legacy of compassionate education and dedication to the well-being of children.
